From Israel: ISRAWINEXPO2006

In viewing the global wine market, a recent study surveying 1215 winemakers in Languedoc just released by France's Centre for Rural Economy Studies (CER), shows the situation for winemakers has worsened over the past three years, with 89% saying they will be in severe difficulties by the end of 2006. At the same time, the European Union recently signaled its intention to stop spending an annual 1.3bn Euro on subsidizing the wine sector. How all this is impacting the long term marketing goals for Israeli wine export?

Dalton Winery is a small boutique winery located in the Upper Galilee of Israel. It produces quality kosher wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Melot, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

In spite of being a relatively young producer in an overcrowded wine market, Israel is now working to achieve yet another goal - bringing Israeli wines out of the country and sharing it with the rest of the world. According to the Chairman of the Israel Wine Grape Board, Mr. Hanan Bazak, a marketing consortium headed by Israel Export Institute and the Israel Wine Grapes Board was recently created to try and double the current export to $15 million to the US within the next three years. The current global wine export from Israel is $13 million a year.

Israel's wine-producing capabilities are not really dating back two hundred years but rather thousands of years as noted by the remains of ancient wine presses at archeological digs around the country.
