Wine Tasting Tour, Israel, February 19-27, 2007

Printable Version.

At the end of Israel's exodus from Egypt, Moses sent his scouts to retrieve evidence of their arrival into the ‘promised land'. They carried back a vine heavily laden with ripe fruit. That image became a symbol of Israel. Winein the area had its finest period during the Roman occupation of Judea. Then, with the Arab conquest in 600 AD and Islamic prohibition against alcohol, the vineyards were destroyed. In the late 19th Century a serious interest in wine production returns to the region with the help of Baron Edmond de Rothschild, owner of the prestigious Chateau Lafite. who established two Israeli wineries; Rishon le Zion & Zichron Yaacov

Today's winemaker understands the basic quest that moved his predecessors 6000 years ago to take up the terroir in the ancient land of Israel and have re-discovered for themselves the exceptional qualities that are present in this region of the middle east.

The land and climate are as perfect today as they were in ancient times for nurturing the vine. A very interesting aspect of wine production in Israel today is the fashion for small independent growers with emphasis on quality and particularly expression. So, the future is bright for these new winemakers in this part of the ancient world. As the vines take roots and their masters perfect their art, we can expect more and better wines.

In order to appreciate those fine wines produced today in Israel, we have organized a unique educational journey of wine tasting, history, and archeology.

We have succeeded in providing you with an itinerary that will fulfill your curiosity, desire and possibly even your fantasy. With energy, vision, passion and confidence we have created this wine tasting journey to back up a fabulous educational program. You will be accompanied by our own Dr. Joel M. Fisher, Editor-in-Chief, Vineyard Report Magazine, instructor of wine, wine columnist for the Culinary Connection, partner of Wine Vine & Dine, and President of LA Wine Fest, the largest annual wine festival in Los Angeles. His interest in Israeli wines and stimulating character makes him your perfect host. This is a very special tour incorporating many elements of interest in wine making, and it is reserved only for the professional and serious wine-enthusiast.

In Israel the wine tours are led by bilingual guides. They have excellent knowledge of the area, the cuisine, and the culture of the region you visit.
